DDD ends its 9th edition with a busy weekend that covers all the cities co-organizing the festival: Porto, Matosinhos and Gaia. Until this Sunday, May 4th, there are still 4 absolute premieres and 4 national premieres to see.
The last weekend of DDD 2025 begins at CAMPUS PCS with the opening of the studio doors for 3 projects carried out by Emma Saba (within the scope of the European project Grand Luxe), Eríc Amorim dos Santos and Fabrizia da Paz (within the scope of a partnership with Mindelact – Mindelo International Theatre Festival) – the DDD resident artists.
At 3pm, the marathon of an afternoon and evening of performances begins. Adoçar is presented, for the second time, at the Auditório Municipal de Gaia. The new work by creator Ana Isabel Castro explores the idea of observation and cleaning, based on childhood memories where the word “sweeten” is used as a synonym for washing: “Have you sweetened yourself? Go sweeten yourself!”
At the same time, at MXM ArtCenter, originally scheduled for Parque da Pasteleira, Max Oliveira premieres P_Z_L_S, a 25-minute piece where urban dances mix with traditional Portuguese music and breakbeat rhythms. A free entry performance, co-programmed by balleteatro.
At 5pm, in Serralves, Æffective Choreography, by André Uerba, is presented, an intentionally slow performance for the gradual emergence of intimacy, as well as the choreography, which blurs the boundaries of the body of the performance and the audience.
At 7:30pm, Marcelo Evelin / Demolition Incorporada presents, for the second time, Bananada: OPERANTÍPODA (part I), at Palácio do Bolhão, a physical and sound choreographic object created for and with eight collaborating artists, in a kind of opera of the tropics.
For the first time in Portugal, Magic Maids will be presented at 7:30pm, by Eisa Jocson and Venuri Perera, at Teatro Campo Alegre, for which the creators collected stories from caregivers in the Philippines, Sri Lanka and Indonesia. Magic Maids starts from archetypal female figures such as “the witch” and “the maid”: despised and feared at the same time. In the scene, the broom no longer symbolizes oppression, but feminist resistance. The performance repeats on Sunday at 3pm.
Also at 7:30pm, salsa arrives at the Teatro Municipal de Matosinhos Constantino Nery, with VAIVÉN, by Colombian choreographer Camilo Mejía Cortes. The performance is performed again on Sunday at 3pm.
At 9:30 pm, the two theaters of the Teatro Municipal do Porto present performances, both in national premieres. At Teatro Campo Alegre, it is Ídio Chichava's turn to present Vagabundus, a performance in which 13 performers dance and sing old and current Mozambican music, gospel and baroque motifs. The performance is performed again on Sunday at 5pm. At Rivoli, it is the Spanish company KOR’SIA that presents Mount Ventoux. In this creation, the collective revisits the story that Francesco Petrarca wrote in 1336, "Ascesa al Monte Ventoso", where he proposed an ascending journey for humanity to escape and leave behind the dark years of the Middle Ages. The performance is presented again on Sunday at 7:30pm.
However, the festival doesn't end without a party: on Saturday the 3rd, there will be an after party at the festival, hosted by Fylhas do Dragão, with free entry.
In addition to the reruns of performances, this edition also closes with the premiere of Encontros instáveis, by Elisa Miravalles, on Sunday, at 4pm, originally scheduled for the Bairro de São Victor and which will take place at the Campo 24 de Agosto Metro Station. A 30-minute piece that puts body movement in dialogue with objects in architectural space, using a scenic plastic language. A performance co-programmed by balleteatro and with free entry.
