New model of artistic co-direction of the Department of Performing Arts of Ágora - Cultura e Desporto begins on January 2023

Beggining on January 2023, Cristina Planas Leitão and the American programmer and curator, Drew Klein, succeed Tiago Guedes in a new artistic co-direction model of the Department of Performing Arts of the municipal company Ágora – Cultura e Desporto do Porto’s (DAP), which aggregates Teatro Municipal do Porto, DDD – Festival Dias da Dança and CAMPUS Paulo Cunha e Silva.

The selection of the new name results from an international public tender, launched on July 12, 2022, which valued previous experience in the direction of a cultural institution and in the organization of an international event. Experience and knowledge in performing arts was also valued, namely regarding artistic creation and internationalization networks, venue management, and the dialogue between teams, partners and audiences.

Drew Klein (b. 1982) was Director of Performance of the Contemporary Arts Center (CAC) in Cincinnati, Ohio (United States of America). Having integrated the institution in 2011 as Performing Arts Curator, he created the first programme of the institution dedicated to performance, implementing the Black Box Performance Series and the annual interdisciplinary festival This Time Tomorrow. His work is characterized by promoting cultural exchange and collaboration practices. He was responsible for premiering of several international artists in the United States of America such as Alice Ripoll/Cia REC or Mithkal Alzghair, both presented in DDD and TMP, respectively; and for collaborations with artists such as Kate Macintosh, Ingri Fiksdal, Raquel André, among others.

After the departure of Tiago Guedes, and by nomination, Cristina Planas Leitão (b. 1983) assumed since July 2022 the interim artistic direction of the Department of Performing Arts. As performing arts programmer, she highlights her collaboration with DAP, under the artistic direction of Tiago Guedes, since 2019, in Teatro Municipal do Porto’s programming, DDD – Festival Dias da Dança (since 2020), and CAMPUS Paulo Cunha e Silva (since 2021, its opening year), developing its artistic project and mission. In 2011, Cristina Planas Leitão was one of the people responsible for beginning desNORTE meetings (2011-2017) in Porto, and was part of the Braga'27 consulting group. Her curatorial practice aggregates the development of sustainable creative formats, new narratives and care relationships in performing arts.

The new artistic co-direction takes charge on January 2023.
