The pieces 16 and 17 were conceived as two interrelated parts of a complete double-bill performance. As part of the ongoing development of the Numerical Series, these two works delve more deeply into the exploration of body movement. 16 draws inspiration from the games of Dragon Dance and Snake. The piece features sixteen dancers connected in a linear sequence. As they flow, spiral, and advance, waves of energy ripple back and forth through the line, creating layered dynamics of spatial transformation. 17 dialogues with Tao’s earlier work 7, continuing the sonic and kinesthetic experimentation. In this piece, seventeen dancers are either dispersed individually or clustered together in seemingly erratic motion. — TAO Dance Theater
