KING SIZE confronts the creative devices of contemporary drag performances with the strict codes of gender representation in traditional dance and theatre, spotlighting the differences between what is natural and what is a cultural or scenic construct. Drag subverts gender roles, strengthening the theatrical aspects of those interpretations, but it is also a form of social criticism and a means of artistic expression. Drag king/queer shows—and what we could call spectacular masculinity—enable us to reconsider the staging of masculinity and question what gender performance is. KING SIZE aims at analysing the way in which masculinity is build, focusing on figures who embody masculine myths, as well as their parodic reconsiderations. — Sónia Baptista
