No Category Practice brings together various movement practices. Rather than exploring the individual potential of each one, we are interested in understanding how they relate to each other — in their complementarities and conflicts — and how they can broaden our spectrum of possibilities as movers, performers, dancers and people. We start from the idea that these practices are tools through which we get to know ourselves and understand the world. By bringing categories to the forefront of our consciousness, we realise how they are linked to the construction of identity and how they can also limit our forms of connection. From a technical basis centred on the body, we then open ourselves up to the power of images, analogies and symbols. This is where dance expands, creating metaphors capable of escaping the rigidity of categorisation. — Renan Martins
