Flávio Rodrigues

Flávio Rodrigues is a multidisciplinary artist. He began dancing and drawing with the teacher and artist Alexandrina Costa in 1992. He completed the professional contemporary dance course at balleteatro (2003) and trained in Dance at Ginasiano (1996), Dance Works Rotterdam (2005), and the Núcleo de Experimentação Coreográfica (2008). In 2012, at the invitation of balleteatro, he participated in the Les Réperages/Danse à Lille meetings and, with the support of the Calouste Gulbenkian Foundation, took part in the choreographic residency Correios em Movimento/Dança em Trânsito (Brazil). Since 2006, Flávio has been developing his own multidisciplinary and experimental artistic projects, framing them as integral parts of a gradual autobiographical construction. Drawing, performance art, creation/manipulation of objects, sound, movement, and sculpture are some of the media he uses, aiming to induce the body/work into error, camouflage, or abstract and poetic states, as well as to explore plasticities of a raw, organic, and/or crude nature, mostly derived from processes of collection and scavenging. Walking has emerged as a significant procedural base in his work. His projects have been presented/exhibited in various venues and in collaboration with multiple structures. In 2024, he was an artist represented by the Bienal de Cerveira.
