The French performer Mathilde Monnier danced for the companies of Viola Farber and François Verret before turning to choreographing group works, solos and duos in 1984.


She took over as director of the Centre Choréographique National de Montpellier Languedoc-Roussillon in 1994, inaugurating a period of strong experimentation with other artistic subjects and of reflection on the role and reach of this institution.

Her works, such as Pour Antigone, Déroutes, Les lieux de là, Surrogate City, Soapéra have been presented in various international stages and festivals.

She tends to alternate between solo projects and collaborations with various figures from the artistic and cultural world, such as the writer Christine Angot, the composer Heiner Goebbels or, more recently, the performer La Ribot and the director Tiago Rodrigues, with whom she created Please please please.

She was the director of the Centre National de la Dance between 2013 and 2020.
