Responding to performance: questions, reflections and critical writing

A participatory conversation focused on creative and critical responses to performance and experimental approaches to live art. This event features open dialogue with locally based practitioners, including writer Cláudia Galhós and the platform Performing the Archive. We will explore the creative possibilities of writing in relation to performance, moving beyond traditional reviews to more imaginative and non-conformist ways of critically engaging with live art. Facilitated by performingborders, this space aims to generate new ideas about creative responses to live art, with a focus on Porto’s local context while connecting to broader cross-border perspectives. Our hope is for attendees to leave with a sense of curiosity, and new ways to engage with the DDD programme. — performingborders

performingborders returns to DDD with a new edition of Live Art Writers Network (LAWN), gathering conversations around experimental writing in dialogue with performance and live art. Centering writers and artists whose practices are shaped by lived experiences of intersectional borders, this year’s LAWN programme is co-curated with director, researcher and curator Pedro Vilela.

This year, the artists-writers Hilda de Paulo and Claire Sivier are co-commissioned to engage with the festival and produce multidisciplinary critical texts reflecting on their experiences and the performances. These works will be shared publicly after the festival.

Marking DDD’s ten-year milestone, the project also engages with the festival’s archive, exploring its trajectory and its relationship with Porto, Matosinhos, and Gaia, while reflecting on performance’s role in the urban context and how critical writing can help articulate this connection.

Tiziano Cruz’s participation is made possible by the “Cidades Fragmentadas” residency programme, an initiative that brings together architecture, research and art, developed by the Frame Colectivo studio.
